About QuickNote – Online Notepad
QuickNote is a free online notepad that lets you write, organise and save notes directly in your browser. There is no login and no signup. Your notes are saved automatically while you type, so you can close the page and continue later on the same device. It is useful for daily to-do lists, study notes, drafts, meeting notes, ideas and quick text editing.
How It Works
QuickNote saves your notes in your browser's local storage. About one second after you stop typing, the current note is saved automatically and the status at the top changes from "Saving…" to "Saved". When you open the page again, your notes and your last open note are restored. Nothing is sent to a server, so your text stays on your device.
How to Use – Step by Step
- Create a note: Click + New Note. Type a title at the top and start writing in the large editor.
- Choose a mode: Use Plain mode for simple text, or switch to Rich mode for bold, italic, underline, headings, bulleted lists, numbered lists and links.
- Manage your notes: The left sidebar shows all notes. Use the search box to find a note by title or content. Sort by newest, oldest or title. Rename, duplicate, pin or delete a note with the small icons next to it.
- Find and replace: Click Find or Replace (or press Ctrl+F or Ctrl+H). Type a word, press Enter for the next match, and use Replace or Replace all. You can turn on the Case option for exact matching.
- Check your writing stats: The bar below the editor shows words, characters (with and without spaces), lines, sentences and estimated reading time. Set a word or character target in Settings to track your progress.
- Personalise the editor: Open Settings to change font size, font family, line spacing, editor width, paper-like background, line numbers, spell check and dark mode.
- Focus on writing: Click Focus to hide the menus and sidebar and write in a distraction-free full-screen view. Press Esc to exit.
- Save, export or print: Open the File menu to save as .txt, export as .html or .md, copy the whole note, or print. To get a PDF, choose Print and then select "Save as PDF" in your browser's print window.
- Back up your notes: Use File → Download all notes (JSON backup) regularly. You can restore the backup later with Restore from JSON backup.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this online notepad free?
Yes. You can create as many notes as your browser storage allows, with no payment and no account.
Do I need to log in or create an account?
No. Open the page and start writing right away.
Where are my notes saved?
Your notes are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. They are not uploaded to our server.
Will my notes be there when I come back?
Yes, on the same browser and device. When you reopen the page, your notes and your last open note are restored automatically.
Why did my notes disappear?
Browser-based notes can be removed if you clear site data or cookies, use incognito or private mode, or switch to a different browser or device. To stay safe, use File → Download all notes (JSON backup) from time to time.
Can I use my notes on another phone or computer?
Notes do not sync automatically. Download a JSON backup on the first device and use Restore from JSON backup on the second device.
How does autosave work?
About one second after you stop typing, the note is saved automatically. The status at the top shows Saving…, Saved or Save failed. If saving fails, for example when browser storage is full, you will see a message and can download a backup.
What is the difference between Plain and Rich mode?
Plain mode is simple text without formatting. Rich mode lets you use bold, italic, underline, headings, lists and links. Switching from plain to rich keeps your text. Switching from rich to plain removes formatting, and the tool asks you to confirm first.
How do I save my note as a PDF?
Open File → Print / Save as PDF (or press Ctrl+P). In your browser's print window, choose "Save as PDF" as the destination. The tool does not create PDF files by itself.
Which file types can I import and export?
You can open .txt files and import .md (Markdown) files. You can save a note as .txt, export it as .html or .md, and back up all notes as a .json file.
How do I search for a word inside a note?
Press Ctrl+F or click Find, type the word and press Enter to jump to each match. The tool shows how many matches were found. To search across all notes, use the search box in the sidebar.
Why does find not match a word that has mixed formatting?
In rich-text mode, search works within each formatted piece of text. A word that is split by different formatting, such as part bold and part normal, may not be matched as one word.
Can I delete all my notes at once?
Yes. Open Settings and click Delete all notes. The tool asks you to confirm twice because this cannot be undone.
Is there a limit to how many notes or how much text I can save?
Browsers usually allow about 5 MB of local storage per website. This is enough for a large amount of text. If the storage becomes full, the tool shows a warning so you can download a backup and remove old notes.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. On phones, the notes list opens as a side drawer using the menu button, and the toolbar adjusts to a smaller screen.
Is it safe to keep passwords in this notepad?
We recommend not storing passwords or other highly sensitive information in any browser-based note. Anyone who can use your device and browser may be able to open the page and read the notes.
